Making and receiving calls outside Canada and the United States is now available in select countries through our Voice A add-ons. Text messaging and data usage remain accessible. You can choose to get a block of data, called a Travel Add-on, or even change your plan’s coverage if you’re travelling outside your coverage zone (for example, if your plan is for Ontario only and you’re going to Quebec). Keep in mind: Province-only plans (Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British-Colombia) work only in that province. When you travel to another province, your minutes, texts, and data don’t apply. You’ll need a Travel Add-on or Wallet funds. Canada or Canada + USA plans already include usage across those areas — no add-on needed. And remember — Wi-Fi is always your best friend 😊. Make sure the roaming option on your phone is enabled, otherwise your usage will be blocked. How much will it cost. To see the rates for the place you’re heading to, sign into your account and go under My plans > Manage plan > Travel . Enter your destination. The site will show the prices for the available Travel Add-ons. Since Fizz is a prepaid service, there are no surprise fees. You are limited by the amount of data and/or SMS in your travel add-on. Choosing a Travel Add-On. A Travel Add-on is basically a block of data at a fixed price that allows you to use your Fizz service while travelling outside your coverage area (roaming). Once purchased, you can use it immediately, and it will remain available until the end of your next payment cycle. Troubleshooting: Make sure you have minutes If your plan does not contain any minute, you will not be able to make or receive calls on your phone. Several options are available to you in My Account under ''Manage plan'' to regularize the situation: Add-ons (Immediate) Wallet (Immediate) Make changes to this plan (At the end of the payment cycle) Restart your phone Reboot (power cycle) your phone by holding down the phone’s start button for 10 seconds. After you reboot, your applications will reload. Your phone will then re-authenticate to the Fizz mobile network. This will allow your phone to recover its authorization to access the network. STIR/SHAKEN is a set of procedures aiming to verify caller identity. They are intended to help combat unwanted calls received by members of the public. STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) is an acronym for a set of standards that allow a telecommunications service provider to verify the legitimacy of a caller’s number when a call is made. SHAKEN (Signature-based Handling of Asserted Information using toKENs) is an acronym for a framework that allows different operators to deploy the STIR protocol to authenticate calls made and received on the IP network. Why it’s important The STIR/SHAKEN standards involve different ways to indicate whether the caller number displayed on compatible mobile devices is trustworthy. The CRTC has required all Canadian telecommunications service providers to implement these standards to combat caller identity spoofing. Good to know: Spoofing is a technique that alters the caller ID information displayed on your phone to hide the caller’s identity. This technique is based on the principle that we are more likely to respond when we receive a call that appears legitimate (such as a local phone number). Spoofing can be used for unethical reasons such as deceptive telemarketing or fraud. There are times, however, when changing the caller’s identity is acceptable. A doctor for instance, calling to discuss a patient’s lab results may want to display the hospital’s number rather than their personal number. Under what conditions can a number be verified? Because the standards are being rolled out and are not yet supported by all vendors, not all calls are verified. A caller’s number can only be verified if it meets all of the following criteria: The standard is applied by both caller’s and the recipient’s telephone service provider. To check if your address is located in an area where the subscription is available and to get more details about the coverage, please refer to our dynamic coverage map. What is the difference between my coverage area and subscription area? Your coverage area is where you can use your Fizz plan without paying roaming fees. When you subscribed and created your plan, you chose your coverage area: provincial (Quebec, Ontario, British Colombia, Alberta or Manitoba), Canada or USA + Canada. If you roam outside your coverage area, you can use your Fizz plan on our partner networks. Log into your account any time to change your coverage area: How to change your plan. Any change will take effect at the start of your next payment cycle. If you selected the provincial coverage in your plan, consider buying a Travel Add-on or an International call Add-on to make your calls to Canada or the United States. The subscription area is the area where you must live to be a Fizz subscriber. If you live in the subscription area and your address is not recognized, do not hesitate to contact us so that we check with you. Use your Fizz account to check whether a destination is included or not in your coverage area. Once logged in, under your mobile plan, click on Manage / Add-ons. Enter the destination. If the search gives no result, it means that the destination is included in the coverage area you chose for your plan. The SIM card (subscriber identification module) will connect your phone to the Fizz mobile network so you can use the mobile plan you create. Keep in mind, however, that Fizz does not offer business services: SIM card (their order and their use) are limited to a residential use. Important to know if your plan doesn’t include mobile data If your plan includes no mobile data at all, you cannot receive data from another member. For example, if your plan includes only calls and texts, without data, you won’t be able to use a data gift sent by a friend. If you have unused data in your account, you can gift it to any member who is findable in the Fizz community (in other words, anyone who is not in Incognito mode), and whose plan includes data. You can choose to randomly gift data any time. Or, you can wait until it’s almost the end of your payment cycle and gift data before it rolls over. Learn about Rollovers If you want to gift unused data at the end of your payment cycle, you can gift it right before your current payment cycle ends. Once this cycle is over, however, the data will roll over — it will no longer be available to send as a gift. You cannot take back or unsend a data gift. Once you click Send, your gifted data is permanently removed from your plan. How do I gift data to another Member? To send a gift: Go to My Plans in your Fizz account. Scroll to the plan (if you have more than one in your account) that you want to gift from. Click Gift. On the next screen, choose Start gifting. Choose a contact or search for a new Fizz member who you want to gift to. This will open the gifting tool. * Select the amount of data you wish to gift and click Next. With the Fizz Wi-Fi app and another device If you used the Fizz Wi-Fi app with another device, you’ll be able to share your password from that device. Take this other device, and open the Fizz Wi-Fi app. On top of the screen, click on Share Wi-Fi. From there, you’ll have several choices to share your Wi-Fi network. With your mobile If you have a mobile phone connected to your Wi-Fi network, follow these instructions : Make sure you're connected to your Wi-Fi Network. Open Settings Click on Connexion (or Wi-Fi on iOS) Click on Wi-Fi Click on the gear wheel icon located on the right of your network's name (or on the i on iOS) Click on the eye to unveil your Wi-Fi network password (or on Password on iOS) With a computer If you have a computer connected to your Wi-Fi network, follow these instructions Make sure you're connected to your Wi-Fi Network. Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks. Select Network and Internet Settings. Click on Network and Sharing Center. Select the Internet connection named as your Wi-Fi network. As a last resort If none of the above options work out for you, your last resort option is to restore your Wi-Fi modem to its factory settings. If your plan does not include text messages, it will be impossible for you to send texts on your phone. You can adjust your plan up to 108 hours before the end of your payment cycle to add text messaging. This change to your plan will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. You can also add minutes to your plan and use them immediately by buying an Add-On for local or long-distance calls.
