Troubleshooting: Make sure you have minutes If your plan does not contain any minute, you will not be able to make or receive calls on your phone. Several options are available to you in My Account under ''Manage plan'' to regularize the situation: Add-ons (Immediate) Wallet (Immediate) Make changes to this plan (At the end of the payment cycle) Restart your phone Reboot (power cycle) your phone by holding down the phone’s start button for 10 seconds. After you reboot, your applications will reload. Your phone will then re-authenticate to the Fizz mobile network. This will allow your phone to recover its authorization to access the network. Why do I need a SIM card?
Good to know: if your phone is compatible with eSIMS, our eSIM is free, and you can order, install and activate it all in one shot. See the steps for an eSIM here. If your phone is not compatible with eSIMs or if you prefer having a physical SIM card, it’s all good as well. Your SIM card is what identifies you and connects your phone (whether you buy one on fizz.ca or bring your own) to the mighty fine Fizz mobile network. A VoLTE compatible SIM card is therefore required. This SIM card shows a red lightning bolt icon. A Fizz VoLTE SIM card: has no expiry date or limited lifetime; can be activated at any time; can be reused if the initial plan with which it was associated has been cancelled. How can I change the SIM associated with my mobile plan?
The SIM card (subscriber identification module) is a chip with information that identifies you and connects your phone to the Fizz mobile network. It can be a physical SIM card or an eSIM (if your phone is compatible of course). If you are looking to activate a SIM card for a new plan, and not an existing plan that is already active in your account, head this way > https://fizz.ca/en/faq/activate If you lose or break your SIM, your mobile plan will no longer work. And since your SIM is associated with your plan, it’s important to follow the right steps to replace it. Same goes if you lose your phone. You must change your SIM and associate a new one with your mobile plan. Good to know: You can switch from a physical SIM card to an eSIM, or from an eSIM to a physical SIM card. Important: Once your new SIM is activated, the old one that is currently associated with your plan will be automatically deactivated. How to replace a Fizz SIM If you need to replace your Fizz SIM card for a VoLTE SIM card, but haven’t received it in the mail yet, please contact us. One of our agents will confirm your address with you and can send you a new one, free of charge. Some calls when in the U.S. do not work. Why?
If you are travelling to the United States, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the ability to make calls will depend on the network your phone connects to at your location. If only the LTE network is available, the ability to make calls will depend on two things: a VoLTE compatible SIM card and a phone that is certified VoLTE with Fizz. I am on location. How do I know which network I’m on? Check the top of your phone screen. If you see: 3G or HSPA or H+ or E or EDGE There is a network other than the LTE network. You can use your phone to make calls provided, of course, you have Canada + US coverage on your mobile plan, or funds in your Fizz wallet to pay per use. No service The LTE network is the only option where you’re at and your phone is not LTE capable. You will not be able to make calls. LTE Your phone connects to the LTE network but must be VoLTE certified with Fizz to make calls using VoLTE technology. What do I need to check to use VoLTE technology? If you wish to make calls and the LTE network is the only option where you are, VoLTE technology comes into play. You must check: A. Your SIM card. A VoLTE compatible SIM card is required. How do I know if I can use my own phone with Fizz?
Fizz guarantees the proper functioning of all the devices it sells. However, you may use your own device, provided it meets the requirements outlined below. Good to know: smartwatches are not supported at this time. If you wish to use an eSIM Important: Check your device compatibility before ordering an eSIM card, as not all phones support eSIM technology. Good to know: if your phone is not compatible with eSIMs, don’t worry. You can still get a physical SIM card online, or from one of our partner stores. Here are a few ways to check if your phone is compatible with eSIM technology: Visit your device manufacturer’s website or contact their customer support. In your phone’s settings, go to the SIM section. If you see an option to Add an eSIM, your device is compatible. Dial *#06#: if an EID (Embedded Identity Document) appears, your device supports eSIM. Why is VoLTE important?
The withdrawal of the 3G network will start July 31, 2025, for Fizz and several of its partners. All calls made with your Fizz mobile plan will then go through the LTE network thanks to VoLTE technology. Mobile members who are not VoLTE-compatible, due to their SIM or their phone, will eventually experience service degradation until they can no longer make or receive calls, including to 9-1-1. To maintain the quality of your mobile service, check your VoLTE compatibility as soon as possible: Use a VoLTE-compatible SIM card or an eSIM (if your phone allows it). Use a phone that is VoLTE-compatible at Fizz. Activate the VoLTE function on your phone. IMPORTANT: If any of these criteria is not met, none of your c alls (including 911 calls) will go through once the 3G network has been completely removed To learn more about the withdrawal of the 3G network in Canada, visit the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) website, and the Canadian Telecommunications Association website.
