What is data gifting and how does it work?

If you have unused data in your account, you can gift it to any member who is findable in the Fizz community (in other words, anyone who is not in Incognito mode), and whose plan includes data.

You can choose to randomly gift data any time. Or, you can wait until it’s almost the end of your payment cycle and gift data before it rolls over. Learn about Rollovers

If you want to gift unused data at the end of your payment cycle, you can gift it right before your current payment cycle ends. Once this cycle is over, however, the data will roll over — it will no longer be available to send as a gift.

You cannot take back or unsend a data gift. Once you click Send, your gifted data is permanently removed from your plan.

 

  1. How do I gift data to another Member?

    To send a gift:

    1. Go to My Plans in your Fizz account.
    2. Scroll to the plan (if you have more than one in your account) that you want to gift from.
    3. Click Gift.
    4. On the next screen, choose Start gifting.
    5. Choose a contact or search for a new Fizz member who you want to gift to. This will open the gifting tool. *
    6. Select the amount of data you wish to gift and click Next.
    7. Customize a message to the recipient and click Send.

     

    * If you select an email or referral code from your contact list, data will be given to the first (oldest) activated plan on the account associated by default with that email address or referral code (there may be multiple phone numbers on this email). If you choose to give your data to a specific phone number, however, then the data will be given to the plan associated specifically with that phone number.

     

     

  1. What kind of data can I gift?

    You cannot gift:
    • An unlimited feature, such as text, minutes or minutes for international calls
    • Add-Ons
    • Gifted data (no re-gifting allowed!)
    • Data that has already been rolled over

     

    How late in my payment cycle can I gift unused data?

    If you want to gift unused data at the end of your payment cycle, you can gift it right before your current payment cycle ends. Once this cycle is over, however, the data will roll over — it will no longer be available to send as a gift.

     

  1. How much data can I gift?

    You must gift at least 500 MB (0.5 GB). There is no maximum.

  1. How long is a gift valid?

    Gifted data is valid until the end of the recipient’s payment cycle that follows the cycle during which the data was gifted. For example, say I receive gifted data on May 15, but my payment cycle ends on May 27. That gifted data will therefore be valid up until the end of my next payment cycle on June 27th.

    Gifted data cannot be rolled over. If the recipient doesn't use that data before the end of the payment cycle that follows the cycle during which he received it, the gifted data will be deleted.

    To see how long gifted data is valid:
    1. Go to My Plans in your Fizz account.
    2. Under the plan you wish to view (if you have more than one) click on See usage.
    3. This will open the Usage screen, which lists all your gifts, Add-Ons, Rollovers, etc. The blue arrow will tell you which data bucket you are currently using. On the right hand side you can see how many days are left for your gifted data.

    Gifted data always match the recipient’s coverage. For example, if you have Quebec coverage and gift data to someone with Canada - US coverage, the data you gift will have Canada - US coverage

     

  1. Who can I send a gift to?

    You can send a data gift to:
    • Any Fizz customer who is findable in Contacts and has a data plan
    • A complete stranger, as long as they are findable and have a Fizz data plan
    You cannot send a data gift to:
    • People who are not Fizz members
    • Fizz members with no data plan
    • Fizz members who have designated themselves incognito

    Buying an Add-on or applying a perk or an upgrade allow you to add extra data to your plan, but that won’t give you the ability to gift or receive data. To gift or receive data, your plan must include data from the get-go.

     

  1. What to do with a gift?

    How do I accept a gift? Can I refuse it?

    No. You cannot refuse gift. When another Fizz member sends you a gift, your account automatically accepts it. You will receive a message that tells you who the gift is from.

    Prefer not to receive gifts? In My Profile under Settings > Privacy you can adjust your privacy settings to Incognito. As Incognito, you are not searchable as a Fizz contact and you cannot accept gifts.

  1. Why would I want to gift data to a stranger?

    It feels good to help out a stranger. Sometimes a Fizz customer asks the community to gift them data... because they’ve run out. Or maybe a friend of a friend asks for data on social media and you’re feeling generous. In this case, you simply search for this person’s first name or phone number and transfer your gift.
