What are the details and conditions of the BETA test period?

The BETA test period for Fizz mobile services in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia ended on April 10, 2024.

For those eligible members who, during the test period in an eligible region, activated their SIM card on or before April 9, 2024, the FAQ below outlines the conditions, implications and full details of the associated BETA price privilege they are enjoying as BETA testers.

  1. Eligibility to the BETA

    Reside in an eligible region.

Your home address will be validated as you subscribe and that is what will determine whether you reside in an eligible region, or not, to activate a mobile plan and participate in the BETA. Any new mobile plan associated with an address in an eligible region and activated during the test period will automatically enjoy a BETA price privilege. If your home address is not in an eligible region, you may not participate in the BETA.

How to activate a mobile plan

Have a compatible and VoLTE-certified phone.

A compatible phone that is VoLTE certified with Fizz is required to activate a mobile plan. If your phone does not meet these criteria, it may nonetheless function but your access to certain services may be limited, and even withdrawn.

  1. BETA price privilege

The BETA price privilege, offered in recognition of any potential glitches that may affect and/or limit services, is a monthly discount on the regular price of a BETA-tester's mobile plan, that discount being identified when the SIM card is activated.

This discount will be automatically applied every month for six (6) months, starting the day your SIM card is activated. The activation of the SIM card must be done during the test period , or else the plan will not be eligible to the BETA price privilege.

    You can change your plan.

If you change your plan during your six (6) month period, your BETA price privilege will apply to your new plan for the unexpired portion of the original six (6) months. To change your plan, log in to your account on Fizz.ca and go under

My plans > Manage plan > Change my plan

You may unsubscribe at any time.

If you unsubscribe from your mobile plan before the end of your BETA price privilege, you may reactivate your plan within the following 60 days but know that you will have lost your BETA price privilege.

If the deactivation of your mobile plan goes back more than 60 days, reactivating it will be impossible. You’ll have to start from scratch and create yourself a new plan with a new number.

If Fizz changes the amount of the discount associated to the BETA price privilege.

This offer that is the BETA price privilege is subject to change without notice. Any modification will be communicated on Fizz.ca and will apply to new BETA-testers who activate their SIM card after the date of this change. There will be no impact on the BETA price privilege of those BETA-testers who activated their SIM card prior to the date of this change.

  1. BETA implications

A BETA is a period during which users test a new service. So, by agreeing to use our mobile service during our test period, you become a BETA tester, and you understand and accept that services offered are limited and/or affected. No refund, partial or whole, will be offered in respect of such glitches. If you are dissatisfied with the mobile service, your only recourse is to unsubscribe. Your mobile plan will then be deactivated at the end of your current payment cycle.

    Fizz EXT displayed upon activation

The name of the network indicated on your phone will not initially say Fizz. Instead, you will see Fizz EXT. We are aware of this situation and are working to address it. Rest assured, your phone is not roaming, and you will not incur any charges. Simply restart your phone 72 hours (that’s 3 days) following the activation of your SIM card, and all will be in order.

N11 numbers, or telephone short codes, do not work everywhere.

While 911 DOES work, other telephone short codes such as 211, 311, 411, 511, 711 and 811 do not. Members are invited to look up and dial the long version until then.

    Feature not offered

As part of the BETA test period, the Fizz Wallet (used to pay-per-use services not included in your monthly plan) will not be offered. But Add-ons and Travel add-ons will remain available should you run out of minutes, texts or data in your monthly plan, or be planning a trip abroad.

    Occasional glitches

The BETA test period is, by its nature, a temporary test period for a service that has not yet achieved optimal performance. As such, you might experience glitches that will affect and/or limit your mobile service such as problems, limitations or disruptions with the performance, availability, coverage, use, security or functionality of the mobile service. We are not liable for any damages related to the occurrence of such glitches during the BETA period, including indirect, special or punitive damages and loss of income or gains.

    Surveys and comments

At Fizz, we love (short) surveys, especially during a test period like this one. While they are optional and anonymous, your comments and feedback will help us identify and fix potential issues with our mobile service. You also have the opportunity to send us your impressions throughout the test period.

  1. The end

The end of the test period.

The BETA test period for Fizz mobile services in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia ended on April 10, 2024.

If you activated your SIM card during the test period on or before April 9, 2024, in an eligible region, your 6-month period for your BETA price privilege won’t be impacted. The time left for your discount out of those 6 months is shown in your account under My plans.

The end of your BETA price privilege.

After your six (6) months, your BETA price privilege ends, and your plan will automatically switch to its current price. You don't have to do anything, but we'll send you a reminder by email 15 days in advance.

To check the number of months left for your BETA price privilege, log in to your account on Fizz.ca and go under My plan. The date on which your BETA price privilege ends is also shown on your receipt: My plans > Manage My plan > Transaction history.
